Strategic Focus
The group focuses its research on the search for compounds, whether of natural or synthetic origin, with promising biological activity that serve as candidates for the development of new drugs against parasitic diseases (such as leishmaniasis or Chagas disease) and against colorectal cancer. Several of our studies also focus on determining the pharmacological and preventive potential of plant extracts.
Research Areas and Topics
- Medicinal Chemistry: synthesis of biologically active compounds.
- Natural Products: search for secondary metabolites with pharmacological potential.
- Computational Chemistry: In Silico, pharmacokinetic studies, molecular Docking and molecular dynamic.
- Biological Tests: Chemoprevention of Colorectal Cancer.

Notable Projects
- Synthesis of Hybrid Molecules and Determination of their Activity Against Colon Cancer, part of the program: Academic-Scientific Alliance for the Strengthening of HEIs, focused on nanobioengineering for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of colon cancer.
- Synthesis of multi-target molecular hybrids for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease: cellular and enzymatic study.
- Synthesis and Study of the Anticancer Properties of S-Allyl cysteine Derivatives.
Main Research Results
From the projects and research carried out by the group, more than 50 articles in high-impact journals have been published; 6 PhD and 5 master's students have been trained. To highlight, there is a patent for an absorbent (NC2016/0000271) and another for a synthetic compound as a potential anticancer agent, which is in process.
