The museum carries out activities to instruct the public and spread culture, science, and cultural heritage.
In 1942, the Natural Science Museum was created at the university and, one year later, the Anthropology Museum. Both merged in 1970 incorporating the Visual Arts Collection, which gave rise to the current University Museum.
The Universidad de Antioquia University Museum (abbreviated MUUA in Spanish) is one of the places in the country where cultural heritage, culture, education, and entertainment combine to provide an excellent service to citizens and build knowledge in favor of a sustainable social development. Thanks to its community-oriented programs and services, it has positioned itself as a pioneer in the training of different audiences, which is evidenced by its 140,000 annual visitors and its presence in the local, regional, national, and international cultural offer.
The MUUA has an invaluable cultural heritage represented by approximately 60,000 items of its collections of Visual Arts, Natural Sciences, History, and Anthropology. It has permanent and temporary exhibitions distributed around ten exhibition rooms. Moreover, it has a wide portfolio of itinerary exhibitions that travel to the regions of the department of Antioquia and other municipalities of Colombia.
