Strategic Focus

The group addresses questions concerning plant biology, diversity, structure, and evolution of lineages and characters, allowing interaction among teachers, researchers, and students to generate scientific products with a high impact on the different research areas of botanics. The addressed research questions are framed in different topics, such as plant systematics, anatomy, ethnobotanics, bioprospecting, floristics, and inventories of diversity, biogeography, palynology, and reproductive biology of plants.

Research Areas and Topics

  • Ethnobotanics.
  • Flora.
  • Palynology.
  • Angiosperm systematics.

Scientific Cooperation

Collaborative Relationships

GEOBOTA collaborates with different research groups at a national and international level, where collaborative works with Berkeley University, Kansas University, Universidad de Concepción, Universidad de León, Missouri Botanical Garden, and Gothenburg University stand out. At a national level, the group has developed some work with Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad del Valle, Universidad Católica de Oriente, and EIA. Moreover, research works have been carried out in cooperation with Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute, Medellin’s Mayor’s Office, the Governor’s Office of Antioquia, and Agrosavia.
